OnePlus is all set to launch the OnePlus 13 in China on October 31. Ahead of the launch, anticipation around OnePlus’ new flagship is high, and speculation and rumours are painting a picture of what to expect, including when the phone will launch globally and in India. The OnePlus 13 is expected to feature Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a Hasselblad-tuned camera system.
With the official launch just days away, OnePlus has released teasers revealing impressive upgrades to the phone’s display, camera, battery, and more. Recently, a leaked unboxing video of the Chinese variant running ColorOS 15 further added to the excitement. While there are still a few days left before the Chinese launch, let’s take a quick look at what we can expect from the next-gen OnePlus flagship.
In China, OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 13 in three new colours, with a refreshed design featuring a micro-quad-curved display and an eye-catching circular camera module on the back. Unlike the previous OnePlus 12 model, the new camera module does not blend with the device frame; instead, as seen in teasers, it appears as a distinct, circular island with three lenses arranged in a square formation. Each lens is encased within a metallic ring, which adds an attractive finish and highlights the phone’s camera capabilities.
The upcoming flagship OnePlus 13 is speculated to feature a 6.7-inch second-gen Oriental X2 8T LTPO AMOLED display developed by BOE, with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision support. This display has already earned DisplayMate A++ certification, enhanced by TV Rheinland Intelligent Eye Protection 4.0. Other impressive display features include DC dimming and anti-flicker technology to reduce eye strain, as well as unique functionality like Rain Touch 2.0, which makes the display responsive even in wet conditions, and glove-friendly touch sensitivity, ideal for cold climates. Gaming-related touch optimizations are also expected to enhance the experience for mobile gamers.
The OnePlus 13 is expected to pack Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, promising improved power efficiency, speed, and AI capabilities. Rumours suggest configurations up to 24GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of internal storage-an enormous leap that would appeal to power users and gamers alike. The chipset’s capabilities were highlighted by benchmark scores reportedly exceeding three million points on the AnTuTu test, reflecting the device’s potential to handle even the most demanding applications.
On the software front, the OnePlus 13 will launch with ColorOS 15 in China, based on Android 15. However, for global markets like India, it will run OxygenOS 15, offering a cleaner, more stock Android-like experience tailored for a different user base. The latest OxygenOS version will incorporate AI-driven enhancements, aligning with industry trends to optimise user experience based on behaviour and preferences.
Battery capacity is another area where the OnePlus 13 could lead the flagship category. The device is rumoured to house a large 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired fast charging, providing long-lasting power and rapid recharging. For the first time, it might even support wireless magnetic charging.
The OnePlus 13’s camera setup is another major talking point, with Hasselblad once again tuning the camera system. This collaboration is expected to enhance photography quality, particularly in low-light scenarios. The triple-camera system is rumoured to feature a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view. The primary sensor is likely to be a Sony LYT-808, promising improved colour accuracy and clarity. These lenses, along with image processing algorithms from Oppo’s Find X8 series, should enhance overall imaging capabilities, making the OnePlus 13 a strong option for photography enthusiasts.
With the OnePlus 13 scheduled for its Chinese debut, Indian fans are already speculating about its local release. Based on previous launch patterns, the OnePlus 13 might arrive in India by January 2025. For instance, the OnePlus 12 launched in China in December 2023 and reached Indian markets a month later in January 2024.
As for the price, a recent leak on the Chinese social media platform Weibo suggested a starting price of CNY 5,299 (approximately INR 60,500) for the top-end 16GB RAM and 512GB storage variant in China. This marks a CNY 500 increase from the OnePlus 12. Given this trend, the Indian price could also see an increase, with the device potentially launching at around INR 77,000, up from the OnePlus 12’s initial price of INR 69,999.
